It was trying to inform women that Lucky Strikes will keep or make them thin. Not alot of options before Dr. Atkins I guess. I wonder if people just accepted this add as normal when it was first published. Today it just seems crazy and outdated. It makes the advertizers look uneducated or worse, decietful. What is she doing anyway? Good job Lucky Strike, way to sex up the add for the Gents as well. I used to smoke Lucky's years ago but can't remember having that unrequited look. I wonder if her expression is before or after a smoke?

It's funny that in English the genius club is called Mensa...awfully close to menso. And then, on another note that just popped into my head, the town of Taft used to be called Moron. Did anyone know that?
This Advertisement is about famous women are smoking cigarettes and promised that they will keep women thin and famous. The intended message for women is to buy cigarettes, so the can be skinny, famous, and "healthy" if they smoke.
The advertisement is a great way to start selling more cigarretes, but its ironic how many poeple buy cigarretes trying to look good or healthy just like a simple picture.

For the cigarette ad: i believe the intended message is to promote the "beauty" and "elegance" of cigarettes. the way the ad is designed it persuades women, and people in general,to purchase cigarettes if they want to maintain a good looking and slender figure. however, the unintended message is that it does not let you know that cigarettes do the complete opposite of what it is making you believe. in reality, cigarettes only make you look older faster and give you yellow teeth.

The intended message of the Lucky Brand cigarette ad is to persuade women into buying the product so they can feel beautiful and acquire a slender figure without retorting to sweets. The woman in the ad is slender and beautiful and thus making the connections in Americans' minds that cigarettes will do that for you; make you slender and beautiful. The unintended message or consequence is clearly the one we don't see in this advertisement. For example, if the woman doesn't smoke a Lucky Strike cigarette, then she'll gain weight and not have her glamorous beauty.
