Question from tattoos...
ReplyDeleteWhat is a plunk? When G says “A Tiny, fifteen-year-old gang member plunks himself down in the chair facing my desk." am sorry if this question sounds dumb but my English is not really good.
Quote from tattoos on the heart.
ReplyDelete"God can get tiny, if we're not careful."
What does G mean when he refers to God becoming tiny if we're not careful?
Maria, when G refers to plunk he means the 15 year old pushed or dropped himself onto the chair heavily or suddenly.
ReplyDelete"A battle gets waged between disparate takes on God's hidden agenda"
ReplyDeleteWhat does G mean it takes on God's hidden agenda?
"Slights are remembered errors in judgement are held against you forever"
ReplyDeletewhat exactly does father boyle mean?
love life learn i think it means that if you dont act with carefulness god wont be there to always lead the way.
ReplyDeletewhy does Scrappy feel that he never disrespected G in any way?
ReplyDeletewhen in all the time they known each other it was exactly what he would do to G.
"F@!# THE WORLD": a tattoo that was place on Ramiro's forehead.
ReplyDeleteWhy would Ramiro place that tattoo phase on his forehead before he was fresh out of prison?
LOVE LIVE LEARN!,
ReplyDeleteI think he means our concept of God becomes small. That we envision a god which does not command much attention of affection from us. You do not change you life for such a god. I also think he is suggesting that we do this all the time.
Omar, I think that he would have done that due to the hardships of prison. Also, might have had a horrible family relationship.(and could have been influenced by Tupac haha) When things in life get to be really difficult people do things they don't mean to do.
ReplyDeleteLos Angeles County claims 1,100 gangs with nearly 86,000 members.
ReplyDeleteI have heard "Once a gang member always a gang member."
Do you think G took that into consiideration when interacting with gang members? How did he work with those who fell off track?
@Stephanie Rodriguez:I think this quote means is that all the bad things that you done, (even though redemption to make up these mistakes)you will still remember the bad things because that what life is. It also means that all the errors that there with you forever because they are with you you till the end of time.
ReplyDeleteJoekuster22 - i think that as G said "Tattoos on the Heart reminds us that no life is less valuable than another" I think this is the answer as they say you should never judge a book by it's cover and you should always give any one and every one a second chance.
ReplyDeletetattoos on the heart, page 177: Nietzsche writes, "The weight of all things needs to be measured anew.".....so what in the world does that mean in normal, understandable language.
ReplyDelete@ joekuster22: i think G did take that stereotype into consideration and im sure he doubted himself at one point, however deep inside he knew that God would beat them at their own game somehow, sometime.
ReplyDelete@ LOVE LIVE LEARN!: i think that when G says that if we are not careful God can get tiny, he refers to the fact that if one stops believing in him or doesn't take him into consideration, he disappears and our faith towards him does as well.
ReplyDeleteWhen Gregory and some of the homies go to the Coco's Restaurant, and they encounter that woman who judged them right off the bat, that wasn't the waitress too, right? I was a little confused about the two of them for some reason.
ReplyDelete@Rachel: I was confused as well, but I believe the woman is a different person than the server. That's how I understood it.
ReplyDeleteTo Maria: When he says he plunked himself on the chair I believe he is saying that he sat down or plopped down.
ReplyDeleteOn page 43 the others say to the poor boy "your moms a basehead" and "your dads a tacato". I don't know what tacato means because I don't speak spanish and I don't know what basehead means but I believe they are refering to drugs.
ReplyDeleteTattoos on the Heart Pg 159: Thich Nhat Hahn writes that "our true home is the present moment, the miracle is not to walk on water. The miracle is to walk on the green earth in the present moment." It's not that I found something wrong with this quote or that I don't understand it because I do. I just want to point out it's incredibly amazing that Boyle incorporate's different religious beliefs in his book. I for one follow a more spiritual lifestyle so it's nice to see him relate to other beliefs than resort to only one belief.
